Exercising the horse produces energy in the musculature and thus the horse starts sweating depending on intensity and length. Perspiration is the natural body response to psychological as well as physical strain. The Sweating faciliates the indispensable heat regulation of the body in order to regulate and cool down its increased body temperature. This process continues even after the training and keeps the horse transpiring.

After finishing the exercise the muscular activity declines and less body heat is being produced. Although the already developed exudation (horse-sweat) is still being evaporated. While transpiring the horse will notice sweat as evaporative cold and may start shivering. Therefore a quick drying process will be essential to protect a horse from outside factors such as harmful cold, wind and dampness.

Especially during the cold time of the year, the protection of the sport horse before, (during) and after the training is indispensably in order to prevent the horse from sore muscles and stiffness. Particularly the horse´s sensitive back musculature has to be retained from harmfull outside influences in order to keep the horse healthy and active.

As a comparison, pictures of a sweating horse have been taken with a thermal image camera. This horse is wearing a two-sided fleece-blanket made on the right side of a conventional fleece (picture 2) and on the left side of Windstopper®-Laminate (picture 3).

While picture 2 is showing the unhindered loss of the horse´s body heat (red colour), picture 3 proves the optimal thermal insulation and heat loss protection of the EQUIPROTECT®-Horse-rug.

The EQUIPROTECT®-horse-rug with WINDSTOPPER®-technology from W.L. GORE & Associates faciliates due to its excellent breathability a quick drying of the sweating horse and thus maintains the body´s warming microclimate and protects from outside factors as harmful cold, wind and dampness.
